CAPT Bill Diehl, USCG (Ret.), P.E.
Captain Bill Diehl, U.S. Coast Guard Retired, assumed his position as the President of the Greater Houston Port Bureau on September 1, 2009. Bill retired from the Coast Guard in June of 2009 after serving 27+ years.
Bill served in a variety of challenging jobs in the Coast Guard, including being the Senior US Diplomat at the Panama Canal. His last assignment was command of the largest operational unit in the Coast Guard: Sector Houston-Galveston. In this role, he led 2,600 personnel in the highly successful response to Hurricane Ike in 2008. The response included saving 235 lives, cleaning up 240 oil spills, and the largest waterway restoration effort in the history of the Coast Guard.
Bill graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in 1982 with a degree in Civil Engineering, and from the University of Michigan with a Master's Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering in 1987. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Virginia.
