Maritime Cybersecurity Officer (CySO) Training by Chris Wolski, Applied Security Convergence

Designated your CySO? Ready to meet the July 2027 USCG Cybersecurity Plan deadline?

Distinguished cybersecurity leader and CEO of Applied Security Convergence, Chris Wolski, can answer questions and help prepare your company for compliance readiness through a 2-day training course at the Port Bureau.

The 2027 deadline will come quickly. Register today to kickstart compliance readiness.

Who Needs Maritime Cybersecurity Training Under the Coast Guard's 33 CFR 101 Subpart F?

Short Answer: All staff with unescorted access to IT or OT systems, regardless of their physical location, including full or part-time employees, temporary workers, or contractors. Titles don't determine training – access does!

Issued on Oct. 19, 2026, the Coast Guard's  NVIC 02-26 provided guidance for implementing 33 CFR 101 Subpart F cybersecurity requirements. MTSA-regulated vessels, facilities, and OCS facilities must operate with a submitted Cybersecurity Plan (CSP) and designate a Cybersecruity Officer (CySO) by July 16, 2027.

The CySo is responsible for developing implementing and maintain the CSP. Early designation is strongly recommended so the CySO can guide the Cybersecurity Assessment, identify critical IT and OT systems, and drive the organization toward the 2027 compliance date.

Personnel training under 33 CFR 101.650(d) applies to everyone with access to IT or OT systems, with additional topics required for key personnel.

Companies designating a CySO with fundamental technical cybersecurity knowledge and the instructional capability to train others will be better positioned to build and sustain a compliant program by July 2027.

Cost: $1850/person and includes materials and lunch.

Upon course completion, participants earn a CySO certification recognized by industry leaders, equipping you and your company for compliance readiness.

Dive into the core elements of CySO expertise through engaging modules that cover:

  • Maritime Operations Fundamentals: Gain a deep understanding of general vessel, facility, and OCS operations, including conditions that impact cybersecurity in dynamic marine environments.
  • Cybersecurity Best Practices and Guidance: Explore industry-leading strategies for defending against threats, with a focus on proactive measures to ensure system resilience.
  • Incident Response and Planning: Learn to develop, implement, and execute Cyber Incident Response Plans tailored to maritime settings, ensuring swift recovery from breaches.
  • Cybersecurity Plan Development: Master the creation and maintenance of robust Cybersecurity Plans, integrating them seamlessly into Vessel Security Plans (VSPs), Facility Security Plans (FSPs), or OCS FSPs.
  • Equipment and Systems Expertise: Hands-on training with cybersecurity tools, hardware, and software, including IT/OT systems critical to maritime infrastructure.
  • Audits, Inspections, and Monitoring Techniques: Discover proven methods for conducting audits, inspections, and ongoing monitoring to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.
