Navigating Brown Water: Logistics, Challenges & the Path Forward

Join us for our October Commerce Club Luncheon featuring Paul Dittman, President of Gulf Intracoastal Canal Association ("GICA"), as he explores the key logistics shaping the brown water supply chain.
His presentation will highlight current challenges facing brown water transportation, opportunities for improvement, and strategies to strengthen efficiency, connectivity, and reliability across the region’s inland and coastal waterways.
Paul Dittman was appointed president of GICA in August 2021. Previously, he served as Vice President of Compliance, Security and Safety at Turn Services, a position he accepted after retiring from the U.S. Coast Guard. Most of his Coast Guard career was spent in the Eighth Coast Guard District in a variety of staff and command positions. He worked closely with the inland towing industry in St. Louis, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Port Arthur on issues ranging from waterways management, marine inspections, casualty and personal action investigations, pollution response, high water, and port security.
Established in 1905, GICA is the respected, objective, and authoritative voice for inland navigation throughout all 1200 miles of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Working collaboratively across all sectors of the inland marine industry, and a wide array of diverse local, state, and federal partners, GICA maximizes the safety, stability, and growth of the maritime industry to benefit all.
