Event Details

We are excited to announce our upcoming Women in Maritime Happy Hour event on April 21, 4:30 – 6:30 PM at the Houston Pilots on the history of how maritime ships launched wine transport to the U.S .

The transportation of wine to the U.S. has deep historical maritime roots, primarily relying on ship routes since the mid-1500s. As unfortified wines quickly spoiled during long ship voyages, the fortification of wines became essential, allowing them to endure the rigors of sea travel. The 1700s saw the rise of wooden casks as the preferred method for vessel shipping, which not only preserved the wine but also contributed to its unique flavor profile through aging during transit. This evolution of wine transport reflects broader trends in logistics and trade, emphasizing the importance of maritime connections in today's global economy.

Join the Women in Maritime Happy Hour and Matt Douglas how the maritime launched the wine industry, learn and taste six wines from three different countries at the Houston Pilots.

We encourage attendees to bring early and mid-career employees from their organization as their guests. This is a free event and includes food and drink (you must be 21 years old).
