We are excited to announce our upcoming Women in Maritime Happy Hour event on July 22, 4:30 – 6:30 PM at the new Houston Maritime Center and Museum.  We know how valuable this event is for women in the industry and we are delighted to support it once again. The Houston Ship Channel has more than 272 public and private facilities, housing chemical plants, refineries, petroleum storage facilities, container facilities, and other industrial facilities. It is also a vital economic engine bringing $439 billion in economic value to the state of Texas and $906 billion in U.S. economic impact nationwide. 

Women in Maritime Happy Hour Guest speaker: 

Margaret Kidd
President, Houston Maritime Center & Museum

Margaret Kidd was recently named as president of the Houston Maritime Center & Museum (“HMCM”). She has served on the HMCM board and is a past professor of the University of Houston, in Supply Chain and Logistics.

Established in 2000, HMCM has been dedicated to engaging the community in the rich history of maritime exploration. HMCM  provides early childhood education to STEAM education for K-12 students, connecting them with the past, present, and future of maritime industries. In addition, the Museum connects the community to technology and modern industry, making history and education accessible to communities through events, lecture series, Family Days, programs and videos for homeschooling. And other educational programs will be created in alliance with schools, colleges, universities, corporations, and maritime organizations.

Kidd’s background also includes teaching undergraduate supply chain courses and serving as faculty advisor to the student organization Supply-Chain Industrial Distribution Organization , serving as a liaison for Houston Electric League and Exporters Competitive Maritime Council Education Committee Houston ,  experiences working at San Jacinto College, and has secured funding for students to take the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, certification exams. In partnership with the Houston Urban League, Professor Kidd has assisted with job placements, internships, and scholarships.

We encourage women to attend and bring early and mid-career women from their organization as their guests. This is a free event and includes food and drink. Please be respectful if you can not attend after making a reservation, please notify: alavorgna@txgulf.org as there may be a waiting list for women who do want to attend.
