Join us at the Commerce Club luncheon on Thursday, July 25, 2024, guest speaker Ambassador Juan B. Sosa, President of U.S.-Panama Business Council

Juan B. Sosa arrived in Washington, D.C. in October 1987 as Ambassador of Panama to the White House representing the Government of President Eric A. Delvalle.  He continued to be recognized by the United States as the legitimate Ambassador of Panama and served until August 1989 upon termination of President Delvalle's constitutional mandate. 

Ambassador Sosa has been in the private sector since 1963, having worked for Colgate Palmolive Company at the beginning of his career as an international marketing executive, and from 1969 to 1987 as Chairman of the Board of his own business and marketing consulting company.  Between 1985 and 1988 he served as Chairman of the Board of Air Panama, the national airline, and between 1987 and 1989 as Member of the Board of Directors of the Panama Canal Commission. In 1986 he served as President of Amcham.

In 1994 Amb. Sosa, together with other prominent leaders, founded the U.S.-Panama Business Council, the bi-national business organization that took the initial step for a U.S.-Panama Free Trade Agreement. He served as its CEO until August 2014 when he became President Emeritus.

In November 2014 Ambassador Sosa was appointed Consul General of Panama in Houston, Texas with responsibility over Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arkansas, and in February 2019 as Dean of the Consular Corps of Houston, the third largest in the nation. In 2020 he became again CEO of the Council. He is involved in several initiatives promoting Panama in Texas and in USA.
