The Galveston Bay Park Plan is a proposed chain of man-made islands/navigational gates to provide storm surge protection along the western shore of Galveston Bay and the Ship Channel as a second line of defense complementing the Corp’s Coastal Barrier. Led by Rice’s SSPEED Center, the Study Team is now evaluating the GBPP’s feasibility, engineering/environmental issues, cost, and schedule.
